The reaction to Body Image has been enthusiastic. Women who have seen the video have expressed gratitude for what has been described as "riveting", "inspiring", "thought-provoking" and "a catalyst toward oneÕs own body acceptance". Men have also been moved, expressing shock, sadness, and compassion as they have come to more fully recognize the experiences of the women in their lives. Here are a few reactions to the video:
"This sensitively and skillfully
made videotape raises our consciousness about body image problems in American
society today. The care in selecting a diverse group of women to interview
increases the power of their words. In a short period of time we learn just
enough about each woman to make us involved. This would be an effective videotape
for teaching of mental health professionals, media, parents and educators
as well as a trigger film for use with people with body image problems."

"Thank you beyond thank you for
the film. It was so vital, important, deep, profound--both my friends and
myself were so affected. Two of us, inspired by the film, want to get together
with a few other women and just have "body discussions"--just to bring this
stuff really out in to the open together."

"This documentary takes a powerful
look at how young women are made to feel bad about their bodies from an early
age. It is an eye-opener."
--Dave Barney, Mass Communications Instructor
"I heard other people saying things
about themselves, things I never expected to hear out loud, that echoed my
own thoughts which I'd always kept deeply hidden."
--Student
"This documentary reminded me that
the relentless search for the perfect body affects so many different kinds
of women, women of all ages, ethnicities, and body types. It seemed I could
relate to all these women, in one way or another."
--Cathy Glenn, Speech
Communications Instructor
"I thought it dealt with the issue
of body image in a sophisticated as well as compassionate manner. The participants
were well chosen; it was easy to relate to their stories and the things that
were meaningful to them were conveyed quite effectively. In addition, I felt
that the video would be accessible to a wide range of people."

Marie McShane, Psychotherapist
"I think it's great. I especially
liked the variety of diversity among the participants, the ease and self-confidence
the participants used to express themselves. It would be a very supportive
and enlightening video for young teensÉas a conversation breaker for them
to open up to discussing their own feelings."
